Services Provided by the NMSS of Western Connecticut.

Information & Referral

The primary function of the Chapter Programs Department is information and referral. The Programs Staff provides information about multiple sclerosis, community resources, and programs that are held by the Western CT Chapter. These services are provided not only to people living with MS and their families, but professionals and the community as well.

  • Pamphlets and books about MS
  • Programs specialized for individuals recently diagnosed with MS
  • Educational Programs
  • Programs staff available to answer your questions about MS
  • Referrals to community agencies specializing in employment programs
  • Provide information about the Americans with Disabilities Act

Wellness Programs

The goal of our exercise and aquatics programs, while including a range of physical activity for participants, also holds the broader goals of recreation, socialization and general well-being.

Support Groups

Managing the stresses of living with a chronic illness can be very challenging. The unpredictability of MS can lead to uncertainty for not only the person living with MS but the family and friends as well. The National MS Society, Western CT Chapter, assists people living with MS as well as their loved ones with these emotional challenges of adapting to life with a chronic illness.

Counseling
Managing the stress of living with chronic illness can be difficult for persons with MS and their families. The Chapter provides short-term counseling.  For long-term counseling needs, people are referred to experienced counselors in their community.

Equipment Loan and Financial Assistance

The Chapter assists people with MS in obtaining appropriate medical equipment, personal care, aids to daily living and emergency medical care. The assistance is given through support and advocacy, the loan of donated medical equipment, and financial assistance if other resources are not available.

Advocacy

  • Advocate on behalf of people with MS to ensure access to quality health care

  • Advocate on behalf of people with MS to ensure access to employment and public accommodations

  • Advocate on behalf of people with MS addressing long-term care issues on the local, state, and federal level

Call the chapter to register. Once registered, you will be on our mailing list to receive periodic mailings, including the latest information on multiple sclerosis, education seminars, self-help and support groups. You will also receive two publications. The quarterly newsletter -
MS Connections - which informs members and the public about local programs, chapter activities, and national research. Inside MS is an award winning quarterly lifestyle magazine for people with MS and their families.
