Sherwood Island State Park, Westport CT. Exit 18 off I 95

How long is the ride?
We have three routes:
12 mile - flat
30 mile - small hills
62 mile - rolling hills

What time do I have to be there?
Check In: Between 8:00 am - 9:30 am. You can start your ride anytime between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. It is a Rolling Start.

What is the Registration Fee?

Can children participate?
Children 7 years of age or under cannot participate individually or on the back of another bicycle.

I s there a minimum age requirement?
Yes, 8 years of age. Participants between the ages of 8-17 will require the signature of a parent or guardian. Riders 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old throughout the event.

I s there a minimum pledge requirement?
Yes. Pledge requirements are: $50 – 12-milers, $75 – 30-milers and $100 – 62-milers. Last year the average paid pledge was $380. We encourage all participants to bring their pledge money to the event. In order to receive prizes, paid pledges are due October 31, 2002.

When do I pay the registration fee?
The registration fee is due at the time of your registration.

Can I bring my pet?
No. Pets are not allowed in the park!

Does the 2002 MS BIKE TOUR ride if it rains?
Yes! The 2002 MS BIKE TOUR will take place RAIN or SHINE.

Will there be rest stops with food, water and restrooms?
YES! Rest stops will have toilet facilities and are well stocked with snacks and drinks. Lunch will be served at the finish-line celebration courtesy of Bobby Valentine’s Sports Gallery Cafe.

What happens if I get a flat tire?
Have your bike inspected for FREE by one of our official bike shops prior to the day of the event. Bike Repair stations will also be at the Start/Finish and at each Rest Stop to help you get back on the road.

What if I cannot finish the tour?
"SAG"(Support And Gear) vehicles will follow the tour to pick up riders who run out of steam.

How do I get an official 2002 MS BIKE TOUR T-shirt?
Turn in paid pledges of at least $100 on or before the day of event and receive your official 2002 MS BIKE TOUR t-shirt on event day!


Send in paid pledges of at least $125 by October 31, 2002 and we will mail your official 2002 MS BIKE TOUR t shirt.

How do I get an official MS BIKE TOUR Backpack?
Hand in paid pledges of at least $300 on or before the day of event and receive your official 2002 MS BIKE TOUR backpack that day. This offer is only available on event day.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
You MUST bring your RIDER ENVELOPE, which you will receive in your "Starter Kit". If you bring pledge money to Check-In (optional, but encouraged), we encourage cyclists to pay with a check or credit card, rather than bringing cash to the event.

Remember to bring your helmet!
You are also encouraged to bring photo ID.

How do I collect pledges?
When you register to ride you will receive a "Starter Kit" which will include a RIDER ENVELOPE and a sponsor/pledge sheet to collect and keep track of your pledges. The "Starter Kit" will also give you helpful hints for fundraising.

How can I be part of a team?
Gather three (3) or more of your friends, family and/or co-workers and you are a team! Each member must register individually. Also, each team member can ride the route of their choosing and meet back at Sherwood Island State Park for lunch. Special incentives and awards are available for teams.

Can my team hand in our money all together with our team captain?
No, each team member should submit their own pledge $’s, in their individual RIDER ENVELOPE. This is very important for our record keeping.

Do I need my own bike?
Yes. Bicycles are not available for rental on event day.

A re cyclists required to wear a helmet?
YES, ALL CYCLISTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET. Stop by one of our official bike shops and purchase one today! Your safety is important to us.

Is this a race?
NO! This is a fun ride for all skill levels. It is not timed. Ride with a group of friends and/or family and enjoy an unforgettable day!

How will I know the route?
Each route is marked clearly with brightly colored arrows. You will also be given a map of the course detailing each turn and mileage. In addition, marshals will be along each route directing you and making sure the roads are safe for you to travel.

How can I volunteer?
This event cannot happen without the generous help of our volunteers! To help us on event day, check off the box on the registration form and mail or fax it to the NMSS – Western Connecticut Chapter.
